Chiaroscuro Light within the Shadows

 

 

Chiaroscuro explores the interplay of light and shadow within San Quentin SkunkWorks, capturing moments of reflection, resilience, and creative expression. The film highlights the space where art, humanity, and innovation intersect.

The film documents the Chiaroscuro Art Initiative, part of our larger Spaces for Change program: murals painted inside San Quentin by world-renowned artists working alongside incarcerated people and staff, with oversight from CDCR. FaithXLVII painted the first 20-foot wall, and eL Seed followed with a 325-foot mural inside San Quentin paired with a public counterpart at BroadwaySF’s Orpheum Theatre.
